A simpler time
In a simpler time, there was time for talk
to linger at table, to laugh and joke
to enjoy good friends, a constitutional walk
time a tiny acorn could grow into a might oak.
When did people stop being folk
and turn to things to relieve this pain
neglect their friendships and leave hearts broke
and treasure a wealth the living disdain
But the tribe or village will never regain
the loyalty it once enjoyed
such a limited arena will never retain
what the world now employs
an ever-advancing civilization must be our goal
only a universal loyalty satisfies the modern soul.
